Our school rugby sevens' team are the NZ Intermediate Champions for 2011! Our team took part in the NZ AIMS games in Tauranga last week where we were one of 32 schools competing for the sevens' national title.

The NZ AIMS games is a week long national sporting championship event where schools from around the country compete in 15 different sports such as rugby sevens, netball, basketball, football, hockey, swimming, water polo, badminton, gymsport, squash, golf, cross country, tennis, indoor bowls and multisport.

There were 121 schools, over 4,600 competitors and around 900 officials that took part in this huge sporting occasion.

Our boys' team dominated the competition and were undefeated in 12 games over the 3 day tournament. They only conceded 6 tries against them and on average scored about 7 tries per game against the opposition. They were elusive and outstanding on attack and even better on defence which helped them win their games. We were fortunate to have Gordan Tietjens, the most respected NZ Sevens' Team coach in the world, be a part of giving our team and coaching staff, some helpful tips to winning the tournament.

In the grand final, our team played against the defending champions, Royal Oak Intermediate, where we won 31-5. This is the biggest sporting achievement that Pt England has ever had and considering that it was our first time entering this tournament, we are extremely proud of their success.

The champion team for 2011: Tanielu Tele'a, Feki Taukafa, Junior Mokoi, Raven Takarei, Jonty Timoti, Charm Rameka, Zane Keni, Ieremus Kelemete, Cruz Ona-Sue, Tamati McPherson, Tyler Rameka and Jordan Schwenke. Sione Muaiava was our 13th player on stand-by. The coaching and managment staff were: Sally Va'afusuaga (coach & manager), Ray Tele'a (trainer), Pauline Rameka & Andrea Tele'a (assistant managers), Annie Hill (chef & support staff in Tauranga)

Our players, families and school are ecstatic that we won! It was an amazing experience that we will always remember and treasure.

Suburbs Junior Rugby Sevens Tournament

Intermediate Sevens Rugby Competition April 2011 from SchoolTV on Vimeo.

Our Open Weight Rugby Sevens' Team won the Junior Rugby 7's Tournament that was played at the Avondale Racecourse fields on Monday the 11th of April, 2011.
